Antarctic Peninsula Cruise with the Adventure Company

Antarctic Peninsula Cruise with the Adventure Company - 14 days from GBP4,599.

With a backdrop of high ice-capped mountains, crevassed glaciers and ice-filled fjords this is Antarctica in all its majesty.

Highlights
- Remote wilderness
- Penguins, seals & whales
- Giant icebergs & glaciers

Heading South
From Ushuaia, the world most southerly city, you board your converted icebreaker and head out along the Beagle Channel into the Drake Passage. Your destination is the rugged and beautiful wilderness of Antarctica – the white continent. Followed by wandering albatross and storm petrels the anticipation grows as you catch sight of your first giant iceberg and finally reach land.

Antarctica revealed
Many superlatives are used to describe Antarctica but nothing prepares you for its awe-inspiring beauty. Sculpted aquamarine icebergs float beneath vast glaciers and soaring cliffs provide the backdrop to abandoned whaling and research stations. Whilst the scenery is truly spectacular, for many the magical moments are those spent watching penguins run and slide on the ice, seals play or whales break the surface of the water.

Lyubov Orlova
On your voyage southwards the Lyubov Orlova is the ideal ship for a comfortable cruise, with 59 outside cabins, all with private facilities. A spacious dining room will provide hearty and delicious food during your voyage, and there is a fully stocked library with Polar-themed literature. She is also equipped with durable Zodiacs for cruising closer to the water and for any shore landings. Towards the end of 2006, this spacious, ice-strengthened ship underwent extensive renovations to the forward lounge, dining room and cabins.

Clipper Adventurer
The sister-ship of Lyubov Orlova, built in 1975, underwent a $13-million conversion in 1998. Carrying up to 122 passengers, she is prepared for a comfortable voyage with a fully equipped library, spacious lounge area and excellent restaurant facilities. She has a proud reputation as a well-appointed, elegant expedition ship for softer adventures. The ship is equipped with Zodiacs for shore landings and ocean-level cruising, yet offers fine dining and cabins with exterior views and en suite facilities.

Responsible Travel
All our Antarctic cruises adhere to the IAATO regulations and actively ensure that this pristine wilderness is protected and preserved.

Discover the Best of British Ceramics Short Break

Antiques with Eric Knowles & Warner Leisure Hotels - Discover the best of British Ceramics.

Britain has a long and proud tradition in ceramics and this Experience Break will take you into the heart of one of the great centres of production - under the guidance of ceramics expert and TV personality Eric Knowles.

The "Best of British Ceramics" break includes visits to the Bronte Porcelain Factory in Malvern and the Worcester Museum of Porcelain - as well as presentations about the world of art and antiques and valuations of guests' personal items.

After a presentation by Eric on the first evening, you'll be whisked off on the Saturday to explore two fascinating museums. The Bronte Porcelain Factory in Malvern produces exquisite, elegant and often witty collectibles, and your private tour of the factory will be with the Chairman, or its Director, BBC's Henry Sandon. Here, you'll learn more of the technical demands placed on creating pieces which are then fired at almost 1,300 degrees centigrade.

We're hoping that Henry can also accompany us on our next visit, to The Worcester Porcelain Museum, which houses the world's largest collection of Worcester Porcelain. At the very least, Henry's entertaining audio tour means that he will be making a "virtual" presentation at the Museum. The collections, totalling 10,000 objects, date back to 1751: the year that Dr Wall established the first factory in Worcester - when shapes and patterns were first copied from the Far East for use in the homes of the very rich.

Your break concludes on the Sunday morning when Eric will host his own "one-man roadshow".

Date - 30 October 2009

Digital Photography with Warner Leisure Hotels

Introduction to Digital Photography with Warner Leisure Hotels - Capture the world through your camera.

The advent of digital photography has fundamentally changed the way we take - and store - images. With no need to worry about the cost of film and developing, we can afford to experiment more, take as many images as we want, and then share those pictures with all our friends and family.

The digital camera opens up a whole new world of possibilities - a marvellous way to capture the world around you.

But how do you get the very best out of your new camera? The instruction books can be obscure, to say the least, and the controls are very different from the old style of camera. And, confusingly, they do vary from camera to camera!

On this course you'll receive two sessions of instruction from an experienced local photographer who will take you through the basics of using your camera and then take you out around the hotel's magnificent grounds - where you can practice what you have learnt.

Over the break you'll develop techniques and knowledge to not only get the best results from your digital camera but, if you are really keen, could set you on the road to becoming an accomplished digital photographer!

If you have bought yourself a digital camera that you wish you could operate properly and really make the most of its technical ability then this break is for you. Guests are asked to bring their own cameras, batteries and chargers.

Writers' Weekend with Tony Watts

Writing weekend workshops with Tony Watts & Warner Leisure Hotels

Do you want to start writing? Improve your writing? Or write your life? Then join one of these writing weekends.

Brilliant, inspirational
, and quite the most motivating workshop I've ever attended. That's just some of the lavish praise received after our 2008 writing workshops run by Mature Times editor Tony Watts.

And for 2009, the format will be even better. You'll have a full six hours of tuition in small classes tailored to your ability and what YOU want to do, plus informal evening sessions where you'll socialise with everyone on all the courses and share your work, your knowledge and the authors that have inspired you.

The only issue raised by those taking part in '08 was that everyone would like more time
, says Tony, so we've built that in. And what we have also found is that the supportive input of other writers provides a huge boost to people's confidence. So there's more of that too.

"It doesn't matter whether you are nervous beginners or experienced and skilled writers - everyone gains confidence and makes progress on these courses. Many of my former pupils have now published the book they've always meant to write or are seeing their short stories and poetry published. Writing releases your creativity, opens your mind and can act as a wellspring for other parts of your life. It's emotional, exciting and very fulfilling."

Itinerary
DAY 1 - UK/Casablanca
Depart on your scheduled flight to Casablanca for an overnight stay.
Immortalised in the film of the same name, today Casablanca is a thriving trade centre, an eclectic mix of old and new. This lively city boasts the largest port in the Maghreb – the strip along the Mediterranean which includes Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia – and is home to one of the world’s largest mosques.

DAY 2 - Fez
After breakfast, join our included morning sightseeing tour of Casablanca. We will visit the magnificent Hassan II Great Mosque and stroll along the Corniche promenade. Then it’s time to transfer to the railway station and board the train to Fez. We will travel via the old capital city of Rabat, then turn inland through orange groves before the line climbs, twisting and turning all the way to the imperial city of Meknes. Our train then descends via horseshoe curves through the northern edge of Morocco’s main wine-producing area to Fez where we stop for a two night stay.

DAY 3 - Fez
Today we have included a sightseeing tour of Fez, one of the world’s best-preserved medieval Islamic cities and the oldest cultural and spiritual city in Morocco. Hidden among a sea of flat roofs and tall minarets, you will find a maze of streets, alleys, passages and stairways which take you to a glittering array of stalls, selling everything from silver jewellery to the local mint tea.
Our guided tour will take you to the souks, the 9th century Karaouline University, the Nejjarine Fountain, the Tanneries and the Royal Palace. This evening there is an optional Folklore Show featuring a magician, belly dancing and live Berber music.
DAY 4 - Rabat
We drive to the spectacular ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, with its forum and houses containing well preserved mosaics, then on to the hilltop setting of Moulay Idriss, a holy sacred town with whitewashed walls and green roofs. You are free to explore and have lunch at the Baraka restaurant if you wish. We continue to nearby Meknes, one man’s unfinished vision, founded at the end of the 17th cenury. For 55 years, Moulay Ismail filled this great imperial city with palaces, mosques, gardens and much more. On our panaramic tour you will see the monumental Khmiss Gate, the city walls and the Jewish Quarter, before boarding the train to Rabat for an overnight stay.
DAY 5 - Marrakech
Rabat is the capital of Morocco, where the King resides. The rich history all around is easy to see as you visit the sights or do some shopping at the street stalls. On our included sightseeing tour you will visit the Mohammed V Mausoleum, the unfinished Hassan Tower, the Medina and the Oudaias Kasbah. We then take the afternoon train to Marrakech for a three night stay.

DAY 6 - Marrakech
Marrakech is known as the ‘Pearl of the South’. It enjoys a spectacular setting between the desert and towering peaks of the High Atlas Mountains. We include a morning sightseeing tour which takes us to visit the Badia Palace and prison ruins, before walking through the vibrant Jewish Quarter and spice markets to the Bahia Palace. From here we continue to explore the medina and famous souks and walk on to Djemma el Fna (Mosque of the Dead) Square, the amazing heart of Marrakech. This afternoon you are free to relax or discover more of this fascinating city at your own pace.

At night Marrakech comes alive in a blaze of colour and activity as the food stalls, fire eaters, fortune tellers, magicians, acrobats, snake charmers and sounds fill the pavements and entertain the crowds around Djemma El Fna square. Enjoy dinner at the hotel this evening.
DAY 7 - Marrakech
Today you are free to relax or join our optional excursion to the popular seaside resort of Essaioura. This evening you can enjoy a farewell dinner in the hotel plus an optional spectacular show at Chez Ali Fantasia. A grand Moroccan event under Royal Ceidal tents accompanied by local musical entertainments, a horse show and belly dancing display.

DAY 8 - Marrakech/UK
Transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK.
